The General Strike
4:15pm Sun 20 Aprmelbourne
About this session
General strikes are nearly as old as the workers’ movement. They have featured in virtually every major upsurge of the class struggle in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The stakes are high as they bring the working class into conflict with the capitalist class and the capitalist state. This session will examine how revolutionary Marxists have understood the theory and practice of the general strike—not as a slogan applicable at all times and under all circumstances, but as a specific demand to be raised at particular, concrete points in the struggle.
