The 1960s and the emergence of the new left in Palestine
4:15pm Sat 04 Aprmelbourne
The rise of the Palestinian liberation movement after 1968 coincided with a worldwide political radicalisation, and so along with the bourgeois nationalists in the PLO, the more leftist Popular and Democratic Fronts for the Liberation of Palestine emerged. Inside Israel, a new revolutionary anti-Zionist organisation, Matzpen, was also being formed.
This session will explore the politics of these organisations and why they ultimately did not succeed, as well as what lessons can be drawn from their experiences for socialists today.
