Socialists at the blackboard: Education and capitalism
11:45am Fri 26 Marmelbourne
The education system is divided by class, and serves to reinforce that divide. For working class kids in public education, the entire system is designed to produce literate, well-behaved adults adapted to the dictatorship of the workplace.
Because school is where many of our fundamental assumptions are developed, ideological battles, like those over Indigenous history and LGBTI rights, often play out over school curricula. For the rich, private education plays a very different role: preparing the next generation of elites on their way to power.
This session will discuss how social class and government priorities shape education under capitalism.
