Rebuilding a socialist movement out of the wreckage of neoliberalism - Special Panel with Socialist Alternative and International guests

4:15pm Sun 05 Apr
melbourne

The late 20th and early 21st century saw the collapse of the socialist left and the workers' movement in country after country. The neoliberal offensive devastated the world, and whole sections of the social democratic and Stalinist abandoned any commitment to leftism and embraced the goal of managing neoliberal capitalism. Over the last decade, though, a new generation of leftists has been inspired to fight the far right, the billionaires, and the genocidal state of Israel. But the socialist left is still scarred by the decades of neoliberalism, the retreat from class politics, and the adaptation to identity politics and left liberalism. As well, reformist left organisations in the US, France, the UK, and Germany have grown enormously, reinvigorating the debate over what kind of socialism we should be fighting for. This has opened up an important opportunity, but also presented a big challenge, for those of us striving to build a new revolutionary workers' movement. In this talk, we will hear from revolutionaries from across the globe who are fighting to build a movement that is rooted in working class power from below.
