Lenin's final fight: challenging the rising Stalinist bureaucracy
2:15pm Sun 31 Marmelbourne
About this session
Lenin's last political battle before he succumbed to poor health in 1924 is also probably his least well known. Aware of the toll taken by years of economic siege and civil war, Lenin said in 1921: "Ours is a workers' state with a bureaucratic twist". Lenin would spend the final years of his life battling against bureaucratic privilege in the Russian state, attempting to defend the workers' democracy born out of the October revolution.
