Imperialism: Capitalism and War
2:15pm Sat 04 Aprmelbourne
War, geopolitical rivalry, and global inequality flow from the imperialist system at the heart of modern capitalism. Powerful states compete for markets, resources, and strategic dominance—and ordinary people pay the price.
This session explains how imperialism drives wars today, from Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza, backed by Western powers, to the devastating war in Ukraine, to future wars as America and China compete for dominance.
We’ll explore the economic and geopolitical forces behind these conflicts, challenge nationalist justifications for war, and discuss how building an international, anti-imperialist movement is essential to confronting militarism and fighting for a socialist alternative.
