Education under capitalism
10:00am Fri 18 Aprmelbourne
About this session
The public education system is a vital part of keeping capitalism alive. From kindergarten, children learn about gender roles and discipline. The schooling system is designed to produce literate, well-behaved adults who are already adapted to the overbearing atmosphere of the workplace. Ideological battles, like Indigenous history and LGBT rights, often play out over school curricula because school is where we develop fundamental assumptions about the society we live in. Private schools play a very different role, preparing the next generation of elites on their way to power. Come to this session to discuss how social class and government priorities shape education under capitalism.
