A Marxist analysis of horror

2:15pm Sun 31 Mar

About this session

Lenin once wrote: “Capitalist society is and has always been horror without end”. It should come as no surprise, then, that some of the most cruel realities of the capitalism’s rampant inequality and oppression find their way onto film. The horror genre is replete with ghouls and monsters that embody what terrifies us most about the system – from the nuclear dread of the original Godzilla, to the inspection of racism and poverty in Candyman, to Under the Shadow’s portrayal of the consequences of a revolution crushed. Join this discussion for a tour of some of horror’s best and worst, well known and obscure, from all across the world and history.
