Delusions and conspiracies: the logic of fascist irrationality

2:00am Sat 16 Apr

About this session

From bizarre conspiracy theories to the obsession with norse mythology, fascist movements of the past and present have often adopted seemingly irrational ideologies. What’s more, some have argued that fascism is a fundamentally irrational ideology and movement; support for Hitler in Germany was a form of irrational mass psychosis or that there is no rational explanation for the holocaust. This talk will explore why irrational thinking features in fascist ideology and whether fascism is fundamentally irrational or there is a logic to it in capitalist society.
