Slums, sweatshops, and billionaires: capitalism in the global South

12:00pm Fri 15 Apr

About this session

Capitalism has compelled a billion people in the global South to living in destitution. But alongside the slums in parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America stand mansions owned by billionaires. This session will address debates about the nature of capitalism and the class struggle in the global South, including the prevalence of third world nationalist approaches which blame poverty only on the West, and the frequent underestimation of the potential for working class struggle and revolution in poorer countries.
