The masses strike back: the fight for democracy in the Middle East

Seven years after an explosion of uprisings against western-backed dictatorships across the Middle East, millions of people from Algeria, to Sudan and Morocco have once again stormed their streets and workplaces in waves of protests and strikes. In Algeria millions are now demanding the downfall of the entire system that has oppressed and immiserated them for decades. This resurgence of struggle proves the fight for democracy in the Middle East continues in the face of formidable counter-revolutionary forces, which will be explored in this talk.
